Canadian Rockies

Banff makes a nice base for visiting the southern part of the Canadian Rockies. There's a famous old hotel called the Fairmont Banff Springs that is a popular place to stay. Nearby are the Banff Upper Hot Springs which is a great place to soak at the end of the day.

The reflected view of Mt. Rundle is a good image you can take close to Banff. 

A little further north on Highway 93 is Johnston Canyon, one of the most popular and most beautiful day hikes in Banff National Park. 

Moraine Lake is another must visit place along the Icefields Parkway. Like a lot of the lakes in the area, the water in turquoise blue from the rock flower in it. There a nice hike that goes around part of the lake and provides good views.

The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is a convenient location just up the road.

There's a leisurely three hour round trip hike from the hotel to the Lake Agnes Tea House.

Peyto Lake is one of the most spectacular ones in the Canadian Rockies and you should hike to the overlook point to get a view from above it. 

North of Lake Louise is the Athabasca Glacier and you can board a large bus equipped to drive onto the glacier for a better view.

One more hour north of here is Sunwapta Falls, another must see place to photograph. 

Finally a stop in Jasper is worth a few days. The Jasper Lake Lodge had a great location and there are nice cabins with view of the lake.
